Irrational Games, the studio behind titles such as the original Bioshock, Bioshock Infinite and SWAT 4 will close down. With the shutdown of Irrational Games, the Bioshock license will be handed to 2K Games.
The announcement came today through a message on the studio’s website where Levine stated that he would announce “a new endeavor with a new goal” Following this, he detailed plans to start up a new studio with “about 15 members of the Irrational team” with a focus on creating “narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable.”
In the message, Levine also confirmed that his new project will be started under parent-firm Take-Two (who also happen to own 2K)
Irrational Games was founded in 1997 by Jon Chey, Rob Fermier and Ken Levine.
