Zynga, best known as the company that brought us a wide range of different Facebook games, have announced that they’ve have purchased NaturalMotion for $527 million.
NaturalMotion has previously created the American Football game Backbreaker, but is mostly known for being behind the Euphoria physics engine which is licensed for many of Rockstar’s titles such as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption to name a few.
“We are committed to refining our skills in the art and science of building new hit games and in 2014, we will move aggressively into new genres that align with the timeless, entertainment categories that consumers care about,” said Zynga CEO, Don Mattrick in a press release.
Mattrick was left Microsoft’s Xbox Division in favor of Zynga, when he was appointed CEO of the company, July 1st last year. In relation to the purchase of NaturalMotion, Zynga have laid off 15% of their workforce, reducing the number of employees to 314.
