Microsoft have acquired the rights to develop games from the Gears of War franchise. Microsoft’s own Black Tusk Studios are to take over from Epic Games.
After the acquisition of the franchise, a new Gears of War game, developed by Vancouver-based Black Tusk Studios, is set to release later this year. Black Tusk Studios was formed in late 2012 as a rebranding of Microsoft’s existing studio, Microsoft Vancouver

Rod Fergusson, former director of production at Epic Games, will join Microsoft and Black Tusk in order to lead the development of the next addition to the Gears of War franchise.
